Our adventure-packed Kimberley sailing cruise of this spellbinding region start and finish in Broome, taking in the many marvels of the surrounding region. We’ll visit the Horizontal Falls, where you can take a thrilling power boat ride through the surging water. You’ll swim under the fresh water at Ruby Falls, get up close to sea turtles on Montgomery Reef, witness ancient rock art at Raft Point, see sunrise in Yampi Sound, swim at Cockatoo Island, take in the brilliant turquoise of Cape Leveque, and visit the most isolated gift shop in the world!

Starsand is the only sailing vessel offering charter tours in the Kimberley. Our 65ft yacht is available for private charter and sleeps 10 people, making for a uniquely intimate experience with family or friends. For aspiring sailors, there’s even the chance to keep watch on a night sail. Cabin accommodation is spacious and comfortable, and all snacks and meals are included.

Day 1 – Fly to Talbot Bay

Board a sea plane and early fly out to Talbot Bay for an exciting water landing. Pick up and transfer to the Starsand.

Explore Talbot Bay and go on a Cyclone Creek fast boat ride through the Horizontal Falls.

Day 2 – Blue Holes & Ancient Rock Art

At the top of Talbot Bay we’ll visit the beautiful Blue Holes hidden at Turtle Reef, before heading across Collier Bay and on to Raft Point.

Here there’s the chance to walk up the hill and look at some fine samples of ancient rock art, learning something about the native tradition and history behind Raft Point.

It makes a great overnight anchorage – sunset is spectacular on the red rocks of the Point and Steep Island across the bay.

Day 3 – Doubtful Bay & Ruby Falls

About an hour’s sail across Doubtful Bay and up Red Cone Creek, we’re heading for one of the trip’s main highlights – a freshwater swim among the lily pads at one of the Kimberley’s best swimming holes, Ruby Falls.

It’s a short climb up the rocks to the freshwater stream which meanders through beautiful pandanas and other Kimberley flora.

We stay overnight here, out of harm’s way from the countless crocodiles who are fond of stalking the boat.

Day 4 – Cascading Montgomery Reef & Kingfisher Islands

Today we sail out to Montgomery Reef, 100 square miles of pristine reef system that emerges from the ocean at low tide.

Anchored in the cut, we’ll watch the water cascading off the reef.

A ride in the tender will allow us to spot sea snakes, many turtles and a whole lot of marine life in the crystal clear water. Back on Starsand, we’ll sail on for a swim at Kingfisher Islands, where we’ll anchor overnight.

Day 5 – Silver Gull Creek & Squatters Arms

Visiting silver gull creek to visit Squatters Arms. There’s a pool tank where the water is 32 degrees all year round and the views are magnificent!

There is a beautiful selection of jewellery, t-shirts and memorabilia at the most isolated gift shop in the world!

Day 6 – Swim at Crocodile Creek

Visiting Crocodile Creek to go swimming!! Don’t be alarmed, it’s only one of the most beautiful and safe fresh water holes in the Kimberley.

Day 7 – Fly in a Sea Plane back to Broome

Sailing back to Horizontal Falls to join the sea plane and back to Broome.

Departures are subject to weather conditions and road closures: usually only a concern during the wet season.

It is important that you appreciate the Kimberley is remote. Please help keep the area pristine and natural by only taking photos and leaving only footprints.

A terrific 13 day winter cruise up the Kimberley Coast

10 of us did a combined cruising/walking tour of the Kimberley Coast out of Broome on Starsand. The yacht is quite comfortable, galley very well equipped and stocked, and it was excellent value for money.
