Holiday at Rottnest on a chartered boat

Stand by Rotto

This week I fielded a call from a lovely bloke whose family is planning a Christmas visit from his chilly homeland in Sussex.

Even though we’ve been having the most wintry Spring in 80 years, let’s not forget how sultry it’s going to be in Perth by the time the family lands.

How to best show them around in the height of the festive season?

He’s chartered Starsand for an extended long weekend on Rottnest Island – three nights, four days, five different bays, about a gazillion species of fish and plenty of space to enjoy quiet shore time when that thing about Uncle Boris gets mentioned one too many times. I love these kinds of trips. They’re a great reminder about how little it takes to relax. When you’ve got Rottnest on your doorstep, anyway.

I think we could all learn something from this bunch about taking spontaneous, no-fuss short breaks more often. Can’t wait to show them my favourite secret snorkelling spot.
